Morton's Berkeley Square.
He is recognised as one of the greatest cricketers in English sporting history, certainly the best all-rounder this country has ever produced, and one of the greatest all-rounders the game has ever witnessed. Sir Ian Botham, OBE, will be our April lunch guest in Mayfair and he is sure to share with us all the story of his amazing, sometimes riotous, occasionally controversial but never dull career. The man who played in 102 test matches, scored over 5,000 runs and bagged 383 wickets (a world record at the time) was one of those sportsmen who emptied the bars whenever he came out to play for Somerset, Worcestershire, Durham and, of course, England. A colourful personality off the field, there were times when he dominated both front and back pages. Post career he would raise over £12 million after a series of long-distance walks for various charities, but mainly leukaemia research. His work and fund raising has made a huge difference to the survival rates of this particular cancer.
The LSC are delighted to welcome such a giant of a sportsman to the club and very much hope you join us over the usual pre-lunch drinks and photo session, a sumptuous three-course meal, the company of other sporting personalities and then the main event - an intimate audience with Sir Ian.
Tickets: £120 for members + VAT; £150 + VAT for non members.
